Volunteering to help in the shop is, most importantly, fun!  It also brings you into contact with the rest of the community and can help you to develop new skills.

Never served in a shop before? Not sure you could operate the electronic till? Don’t worry. Full training is given on all the tasks you’re asked to undertake and we have written procedures to remind you when needed. What’s more, there are at least two volunteers in the shop at all times, so there’s always somebody on hand to ask if you’re unsure.

The shop is now busier than ever, and as our success increases, so does our need for volunteers. If you have some spare time, please consider joining us. You don’t need to commit to a regular slot each week – all help is welcome. Some tasks can be done with just an hour of your time, or you could make a commitment to act as a fill-in volunteer to let our regular volunteers take a break from time to time.

You can help us by:

• Serving customers in the shop and café
• Receiving and checking deliveries, and tidying and re-stocking shelves
• Baking (an hour at the start of any day)
• Sorting newspapers and magazines for sale (less than an hour first thing in the morning)
• Creating posters, flyers and other publicity material (even this website is maintained by a volunteer)

Pop into the shop and have a chat with one of the existing volunteers. We’re all friendly, and you’ll find out that it’s not too difficult, as well as great fun.
